Switzerland-based ABB and Australia-based Perenti Group have forged a partnership focused on establishing strategies that will help their mining clients achieve net-zero carbon emissions at operations around the globe.

ABB, a company that has been electrifying mines since delivering the first drives and controls to a mine in Sweden in 1891, brings more than 130 years of delivering electrification and digitalization to mining clients.

Since its founding in 1987, Perenti has grown into one of the world's largest diversified mining services and technologies companies.

Now, these companies have come together to build a team of mining and electrifications experts that will establish recommendations and strategies for the decarbonization of mining operations.

"ABB and Perenti share a vision to develop energy efficient solutions for the mining industry," said Perenti CEO Mark Norwell. "By combining our experience across mining operations and digital solutions with ABB's leading technologies we are focused on supporting the decarbonization of mining through electrification. We look forward to working with ABB on this exciting new venture."

As a company at the forefront of electrification and automation technologies, ABB has been steadfast in its commitment to helping customers through their energy transition.

This includes the 2021 introduction of ABB Ability eMine, an integrated portfolio of electrification and digital systems designed to accelerate the decarbonization of the mining sector.

This portfolio of eMine technologies and methodologies is designed to make the all-electric mine possible, with fully integrated electrification and digital systems from mine to port.

In addition to taking a mining decarbonization lead on the technologies front, ABB has been calling for open collaboration within the wider mining sector and forged agreements with equipment manufacturers, technology innovators, and mining companies.

With its newest collaboration, ABB is working with a company that brings on-the-ground expertise of a company that works with some of the largest mining projects around the globe.

"Mining customers are committed to facing environmental, societal and economic challenges head on as they aim to decarbonize mining operations," said Joachim Braun, division president of process industries at ABB. "With ABB's sector leading position in electric-mine technology development, and Perenti's excellence and experience in mine development and mine operations, the scope of this collaboration is a perfect opportunity to make real progress in providing electric solutions that will decarbonize the industry."
