In recognition of its pioneering advancements in battery recycling, American Battery Technology Company (ABTC) was awarded the "Outstanding Contribution to Recycling & Reuse in Battery Materials" honor at the 2025 Fastmarkets Lithium Supply and Battery Raw Materials Voltas Awards, standing out among 20 global competitors for its innovative technologies and commitment to a resilient domestic supply chain.
With a legacy of providing trusted pricing, analysis, and supply chain insights to the global metals and mining sectors – built on the combined histories of American Metal Market (founded 1882), Metal Bulletin (founded 1913), and other respected publications – Fastmarkets has become a leading authority in critical mineral markets over more than 140 years of continuous industry presence.
Over time, its influence expanded beyond market data to shaping conversations around responsible sourcing, supply chain resilience, and the technologies driving the energy transition.
In this role, Fastmarkets launched the Lithium Supply and Battery Raw Materials Voltas Awards to formally recognize achievements that help build resilient, responsible, and competitive supply networks supporting the global energy transition.
The annual awards, judged by industry experts, highlight contributions that strengthen and advance the battery materials industry, honoring companies and individuals making significant impacts in supply chain resilience, sustainability, and innovation.
"We are proud and humbled that after this elite group of industry judges evaluated these 20 global battery recycling finalists, they chose ABTC as the winner of this prestigious award," said ABTC CEO Ryan Melsert. "This award is a testament to the dedication and contributions of all of our stakeholders, and on behalf of the company I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to our partners, whose vision and support have driven these efforts forward, to our long-term shareholders, whose trust and commitment have been instrumental to our growth, and to the employees of ABTC, whose innovation, passion, and hard work make achievements like this possible."
The company's recognition came as a result of technologies and practices that have redefined standards for domestic battery recycling.
At its first commercial-scale facility near Reno, Nevada, an integrated system of automated de-manufacturing and targeted hydrometallurgy enables the recovery of battery-grade lithium hydroxide, nickel, cobalt, and manganese from spent batteries and scrap while reducing waste, water use, and emissions.
By eliminating the inefficiencies of shipping intermediates off-site, this in-house developed system became a key factor in setting ABTC apart from its global peers.
As one of the few U.S.-based companies capable of managing the entire cycle of material production, refinement, and recycling within a domestic framework, ABTC has contributed to strengthening national energy security and economic resilience – core reasons behind its selection for this industry honor, and a distinction that affirms its leadership in battery recycling.
