RecycLiCo signs MOU with Korean Sonid

Establishes foundation for efficient, sustainable battery chain Metal Tech News – January 11, 2023

Battery recycling company RecycLiCo Battery Materials Inc. signed a memorandum of understanding with Korean electronics manufacturer Sonid Inc. signifying the first steps toward a potential commercial joint venture or licensing arrangement of the company's recycling technology.

Outlining the strategic partnership and business framework for establishing a lithium-ion battery recycling facility, both companies aim to leverage their strengths for commercial collection, pretreatment, and hydrometallurgical processing of end-of-life batteries.

"RecycLiCo is a company with excellent lithium-ion battery recycling technology," said Sonid CEO Choi Si-Myung. "We are excited to work with them to bring this technology to the Korean market through a commercial joint venture or technology licensing agreement."

Beginning under the banner of American Manganese Inc., at the height of the pandemic, the recycler found itself at the right time primed for an electric future.

Founded in 1987, now rebranded as RecycLiCo Battery Materials – after its proprietary recycling technology – the company was one of the first to kickstart the race to achieve nearly 100% recovered battery metals from end-of-life batteries.

Since then, RecycLiCo has proved time and again that its technology can recover and even output material with equal or better quality than was put in.

Throughout the time since the world decided it needed to reduce carbon emissions and shift to a sustainable economy, numerous third-party audits, testing, and evaluations have been conducted to determine and showcase RecycLiCo technology.

And each time, the results have been impressive.

Now, venturing into the wider global stage, the Canada-based company is ready to put its product to the test.

"This partnership will allow us to increase the efficiency and sustainability of our operations, and we look forward to working with RecycLiCo to establish a lithium-ion battery recycling facility," said Choi.

For both companies, this partnership represents an exciting opportunity to expand their operations and contribute to the sustainability of the lithium-ion battery supply chain.

"The signing of this MOU marks the beginning of a potential partnership that could bring the RecycLiCo technology to commercial scale," said RecycLiCo CEO Zarko Meseldzija. "By coupling RecycLiCo's innovative recycling-upcycling technology with Sonid's commercial expertise, we are laying the foundation for a sustainable and efficient lithium-ion battery supply chain."
