The Elements of Innovation Discovered

Strengthening USAF airfields with graphene

Air Force partners with Novusterra for nanostructure additive Metal Tech News - January 3, 2024

Accelerating efforts to broaden its rare earths and critical elements supply chain, American Resources Corp. announced that its affiliated company, Novusterra Inc., has signed a strategic partnership with key industries leaders, including the United States Air Force, for its patented technology on the production of carbon nanomaterial additives for future sustainable infrastructure.

"We are honored to serve alongside our partners at Kenai Defense, Texas Tech University and the United States Air Force as we use our exclusively licensed patents to better serve our beloved United States Air Force as we work to improve the durability of their domestic and deployed airfields," said Novusterra CEO Greg Jensen.

Minority-owned by American Resources, Novusterra is a private technology company that specializes in the development of carbon nanomaterials and graphene aimed at the infrastructure, agriculture, and electrification economies.

Along with the strategic partnership with the USAF, Novusterra welcomed partnerships with Kenai Defense, a defense contractor that works closely with the Pentagon, and Texas Tech University.

Included in this strategic agreement is a $6.5 million investment by the USAF to help improve the durability and longevity of its forward-deployed airfields.

Specializing in the development and commercialization of its patented technology to produce low-cost, high-quality carbon nanostructures and graphene from carbon-based products such as coal, Novusterra aims to use its products within future sustainable infrastructure, energy storage, agriculture, and water filtration markets.

Carbon nanostructures produced as part of the graphene process can be utilized as a cost-effective additive to strengthen and improve the cure times of concrete, asphalt, and other building materials.

This additive is expected to increase the durability and longevity of USAF airstrips, roads, buildings, and other infrastructure at their airfields in the U.S. and abroad.

"We are confident that this partnership, among dedicated and patriotic Americans, will make both our military and ultimately our Nation's infrastructure even stronger," added Jensen. "The demand for infrastructure projects worldwide continues to accelerate due to rebuilding, energy transition and overall government stimulus, and we are well positioned to provide advanced, high-value technology to help produce better, more durable and greener materials and products to support such growth of modern infrastructure."
